Poundland Beauty: Filthy Gorgeous Magnetic Nail Polish - Heavy Metal Collection - Review

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing very well! Today's blog post will be featuring some photos taken from my brand new camera that my amazing fiancé bought me for my birthday! My birthday isn't until June 9th however he let me use it early so I can start using it for my blog! I have a few posts coming up that are from my old Iphone camera (including this post that has a cheeky picture of the product from my phone) however hopefully you will be seeing a progress in to much better photo quality!

Anyway I digress; if you would like to see a blog post on my new camera and how I use it do let me know! Today however we will be taking a look at another Poundland beauty steal! Last week I was looking in the cosmetics isle of my local Poundland and I found this magnetic nail polish by Filthy Gorgeous from their magnetic collection. I have been wanting to try magnetic nail polish for the longest time now so I thought it would be good to start at the more affordable end of the spectrum!

Filthy Gorgeous Magnetic Nail Polish

From what I have read, from a quick Google search, the original prices of this nail polish range vary. The original price was £12 and now ranges from between £3-£7 pound online. The cheapest I could find was here on the Debenhams website for £3.60. Either way if you manage to pick this up it is a steal from its original £12 price tag!

Filthy Gorgeous Magnetic Nail Polish - Heavy Metal Collection

The polish itself comes in a carboard box with a little opening to see the polish. The only bug bare I have with the packaging is you have to open it in store to be able to see the magnet which reveals the pattern that will be created. For those of you new to magnetic polishes I will provide a little explanation as to how they work! Essentially the nail polish itself contains something called Iron Oxide pigments which are activated and moved once you place the magnet over your nail. So how do you apply this polish? Here is how I do it:

  1. Apply a base coat as normal.
  2. Apply one thin coat of the polish and allow it to fully dry. I find without a base coat of the colour the effect doesn't show up as well.
  3. Apply another coat of the nail polish. Paint one nail at a time. After painting each nail place the magnet over the nail for five seconds.
  4. Allow the nail to dry then apply a top coat!

I can't stress how important a top coat is! I used a cheap, low standard clear coat and this polish chipped away within a day and not just at the edges. Big chunks came off the nail polish came off so definitely use a decent bas and top coat with this polish!

Filthy Gorgeous Magnetic Polish - Magnet

For those of you wondering, here is what the magnetised lid looks like. It's not attached to the wand of the polish itself, it neatly sits on the lid which is a nice touch as you can keep the polish and magnet together. The pattern the magnet gives is also printed on the lid of the bottle. As you can see this gives a waved pattern.

I also thought I would try and show you the top of the magnet itself. As you can see there is also a little arch for your nail bed to rest on whilst you wait for the pattern to develop which is a nice touch. It also gives you a rough idea of how much space you need to leave in-between the polish and the magnet!

Filthy Gorgeous Magnetic Nail Polish - Heavy Metal Collection

Here we are back to the Iphone photo of my nails! This was just after I had attempted the nail polish for the first time as I wanted to give a good indication of how easy it is to use when you are new to using magnetic polish! I must admit that it takes some getting used to but once you get in to the swing of it its fun to do! The effect is also really unique! If you take a look at my nail art blog posts then you will see that I really love unique nails!

So my overall thoughts? For a pound this is a really spectacular buy! I love the nail polish itself however to get the most out of it you really need a top quality base and top coat. If not then this will have to be one of those nail polishes you reserve just to wear on a night out as that's how long it will last for! The pattern is fantastic and only takes seconds yet looks like you spent much longer on your nails! Overall I love Filthy Gorgeous and their take on magnetic polish. Now I want to try out what some other brands have to offer!

Have you tried any magnetic nail polishes? What is your favourite nail art effect? Let me know in the comments!

Book Review: The Accident by C.L.Taylor

After my first book review was so well received I thought I would have another go at reviewing a book here on my blog! This time I am reviewing a book which, to my knowledge, hasn't been discussed too much but for me has been a massive hit. The Accident by C.L.Taylor.

The Accident by C.L.Taylor

I have gotten much better at reading the blurb of a book, taking a risk and reading the book if it sounds interesting. This is exactly how I came across The Accident by C.L.Taylor. I walked through ASDA (glamorous as always) read the back of the book, thought it sounded amazing and picked it up! I was not disappointed. Can I just take this moment to say that I love the matt effect of the books cover! Yes it is a fingerprint magnet but I love different effects on the cover of books.

The story line is pretty gripping. Sue Jackson, the narrator in this book, seems to have a normal life. That is until we are informed that not only is her daughter, Charlotte, in a coma but that her daughter has been keeping a secret that could potential be the reason why she is in the coma. What is the secret you ask? Well you will have to read the book to find out!

Sue's determination to uncover this secret throughout the book is prominent. She becomes sceptical of everyone; her friends, her husband, Charlotte's boyfriend and teachers. She knows that someone isn't telling the truth.

Alongside the standard narrative you would expect to find C.L.Taylor has also included diary entries from Sue dating back 20 years. Diary entries that are not only interesting and gripping but are also crucial to the development of the main plot line. These past diary entries focus on Sue's past relationship with a character called James which explains why Sue's character is who she is today.

Cally Taylor has done a fantastic job in describing certain subjects in this novel. I won't go in to too much detail as to what is covered in this book as I think the discovery of each event and secret in this book is what makes it such a compelling read. That and the amazing writing style of Taylor. I myself read this whole book in less than 24 hours. I just couldn't put it down!

I can't wait to read more from C.L.Taylor. Her writing style had me completely hooked!

Have you read The Accident by C.L.Taylor? Are you intrigued by the story line? Let me know in the comments!

Boots Haul - May 2014

Hello everyone! I don't know about anyone else but when I need to pick up new things I seem to save it all up for one big shopping trip. The plus to this in Boots is that more often than not there are 3 for 2 offers available and I always get sent vouchers that allow me to get more points with each purchase - so it's a win win!

Boots Haul May 2014

As I am sure you can tell by the photo there are a few items I have mentioned on my blog before and a few newcomers to the bunch! So lets take a look!

Batiste XXL Dry Shampoo - £3.99 each

The first three items I picked up were three of the Batiste XXL Dry Shampoos. As you can probably guess this was on 3 for 2 and since I use this stuff so much it is always worth me stocking up. I mentioned these on my most recent product empties post if you'd like to take a look!

Soap & Glory - Glad Hair Day - Shampoo and Conditioner - £5.50 each

Continuing on with the hair theme I also decided to finally take the plunge and pick these two up! I have been umming and ahhing about picking these up for a while. In my local Boots they only seemed to ever have the Shampoo in stock too which put my off as I really wanted to try the pair together! However I struck out and managed to finally grab the pair together! I don't want to give too much away as I will be reviewing the pair at a later date so stay tuned for that review!

Soap & Glory - Heel Genius - £5.50

Also continuing on... Soap & Glory were also on 3 for 2. I really couldn't decide however what I wanted to include as my third free product as I wanted to keep it under the £5.50 price tag that the Shampoo and Conditioner each had! I have reviewed Heel Genius before and absolutely loved it. Since summer is coming back around I thought it would be best to pick this up and take it as a sign to begin using it again for the summer!

Seventeen On The Spot Foundation - £6.99

I reviewed a sample of Seventeen On The Spot foundation a while back now and really loved it. I loved it so much that I depotted the sample and continued to use the foundation on any little spot I got. I love dabbing this foundation on any spot you may have and just letting it do its magic underneath my regular foundation. It also has amazing full coverage! Sadly my sample came to an end so I knew I had to go back out and repurchase to have amongst my foundation collection!

Maybelline Baby Skim Instant Pore Eraser Lightweight Primer

Lastly we have another product that I have also reviewed which you can check out here. Maybelline Baby Skin is a fantastic drugstore primer in its own right. Yes it does help slightly with the reduction of pores however as a primer I think it is top notch. It allows my make-up to glide on smoothly without the steep price tag that some primers have attached to them.

So that is it for my haul! Have you tried any of these products? Are you interested in any? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Product Empties #12

Product Empties #12

Hello everyone! So after a long two months I have finally gotten round to writing up my next product empties! I always like to make a nice little collection of things I have used up and I actually think these past few months I've collected a nice little bunch of things. So lets take a look at what I have used up!

Batiste XXL Volume

Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo is a holy grail product for me. I use this mostly on my fringe. Yes you read that, on my fringe! I put this in to my fringe because it creates so much volume and stops my fringe developing those annoying stringy gaps! Does that happen to anyone else? Anyway...on top of that this dry shampoo works amazingly for freshening up unwashed hair and adds tons of volume so the hair doesn't look weighed down. I love, love, love this product!

Soap & Glory - Sugar Crush Body Wash

If I didn't have a back up of this body wash I would have cried! I love the citrus scent of this shower gel so much! It reminds me so much of summer! I thought I would use the last bit of this bottle up since I have another 500ml bottle for this year. This will last you forever! I like to change around my shower gels on a regular basis so this lasted me well over a year! I wrote a full review here if you'd like to check out my full thoughts!

Soap & Glory - The Righteous Butter

Continuing on with the Soap & Glory theme I finished up a little travel sized pot of The Righteous Butter. I have another little travel sized pot of this and the larger tub to get through so it's a good job I absolutely love it! Once again if you'd like to read up my full thoughts you can check out my review here.

Olay Gentle Cleansers Conditioning Milk

I rediscovered this little beauty whilst routing through my stash off products. I needed something that I could use to remove my make-up, cleanse my skin and moisturise it all in one go to take round to the other half's. This product manages to get all that done which is amazing! For those of you that need a multi-purpose skin care product I would highly recommend you give this a go! Once again I have written a full review here!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil Free Facial Wash

I love Neutrogena and their range of face washes. The scents aren't anything amazing however the actual facial wash makes your skin feel so clean and soft. I loved this facial wash and it lasted for so long! You don't need any more than half a pump really. The lather on the product is amazing. I totally recommend this for anyone looking for a new facial wash.

Soft & Gentle Deodorant

Now we get on to the usual stuff. Soft & Gentle deodorant. Reliable brand. Good range of scents. What more can I say!

Cotton Pads

Last but not least, a staple product, cotton pads. I tend to buy a mix of different brands really. I also tend to stock them in when they are on sale or cheaper than usual! In fact I think I have around 5 packs of them in my replacement products cupboard! Worrying really! Still you go through these like you go through water so they are never wasted!

So these are all my most recent product empties! Have you tried any of these products? What were your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below!

Soap & Glory - Glam-A-Lot - Review

Hello everyone! Today I am reviewing the third Soap & Glory body mist that I have tried! Click here for my review of Mist You Madly and click here for my review of Girligo

Soap & Glory - Glam-A-Lot

Firstly I just want to point out that this scent is so much different from the other two body sprays that Soap & Glory has to offer. Mist you Madly is very floral and girly whilst Girligo is the typical Soap & Glory scent with that extra moisturising element, Glam-A-Lot is described as a 'soft and sexy body spray'. I don't agree that the scent is soft. In fact for a body spray it is pretty strong and the lasting power is pretty impressive! The scent is definitely more mature than Soap & Glory's other two options. If you like body sprays that are more similar to perfumes in their scent then this is perfect! This scent is also absolutely perfect from transitioning from day to night. Much like the other scents in the range the scent will last for around 2/3 hours. If you want to make these scents last longer a quick tip is to spray them on after the shower - they seem to stick better to wet skin!

Have you tried Soap & Glory Glam-A-Lot or any of their other body sprays? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!

L'Oréal Paris Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil - Review

Hello everyone! Recently I have been so interested in skin care. I have been trying out all the different types of products lately with my skin. One thing that I have been fascinated with is cleansers. If you have seen my review of Peaches and Clean you will know that I already have a cleanser that I love however I have been interested in oil based cleansers for the skin.

L'Oréal Paris Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil - Review

I am with the small group of people that are afraid to put oily products anywhere near their skin. I have combination normal-oily skin so part of me is worried that adding any kind oil might make my skin even more oily!  This couldn't be further from the truth! I have to say that this cleanser is a god send for removing my make-up after work. When I just want to get in to the shower and take my make-up of in there rather than fuss about with a make-up remover, cleanser, toner etc then this is perfect!

The suggested use of this product is to apply two/three drops of the cleansing oil on to the palms of your hands then rub this over your face. You can rub it over your eyes without it stinging at all which is fantastic and it is perfect for removing lipstick quickly. It also has left my skin over the past few weeks feeling so calm and soft.

Another way of using this product, which I have found is a common thing you can use cleansers for, is a mask! This is a lovely oil mask on its own that can just sit on the skin and make it soft. If you have used a rough or abrasive product on your skin this is perfect for  relaxing the skin. I love to just sit with this on my face as a mask in the bath for around 10-15 minutes.

You can pick up this product for around £7.99 for 150ml. In my experience I have been using this around 3 or 4 times a week and I have barely dented the bottle so i can imagine it lasting a pretty long time!

Have you tried the L'Oréal Paris Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil? What is your favourite cleanser? Let me know in the comments!

Poundland Beauty Haul - Rimmel London

Poundland Haul

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well! Today I thought I would write a haul post on a few items I picked up in Poundland which I hope to review for you all soon! If you haven't already noticed by the title and photos this haul is all about Rimmel London!

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch

I was so happy when I saw these in Poundland! These are the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch. They are a mix of blushes and highlights. I have been wanting to try these out for the longest time since I am such a big fan of the Wake Me Up foundation by Rimmel. After a good rummage I managed to pick up three of the shades they had available which is fantastic as one usually cost you £3.99! Bargain!

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick - 410 Fleur Tatious

I also picked up a lipstick. Buying lipstick is unusual for me as I have to admit I am not one for wearing it. Like I have said countless times on my blog I like make-up that is low maintenance. The idea of touching up make-up when I'm running here there and everywhere is none existence as it is the least of my priorities! Lipstick I find is just one of those products you have to accept needs touching up throughout the day. However recently I have told myself I need to give lipsticks another go - even if it is just on the odd occasion! I had my faze of wearing lipstick during college/uni and I wan't to return to that faze!

All of these products I have been trying out for just under a week - but I'll let you know my full thoughts in my reviews of them!

Have you tried any of these Rimmel London products? Have you recently found a Poundland steal? Let me know in the comments!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15 - Review

Recently I have been wanting a fuller coverage when doing my make-up. I've had a few important days and nights where I have wanted my make-up to look as good as possible so I thought I would splurge on those items that I don't usually usually splurge on!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15

I've had my eye on various different concealers by MAC. A lot of their concealer range has received pretty good reviews so I thought I can't go too far wrong with what I choose! Part of my reasoning behind choosing their Pro Longwear concealer was it being long wearing as the name would suggest. As I have mentioned countless times I want make-up that lasts as long as possible and ideally requires minimal touching up (not asking to much am I!) as I lead a busy lifestyle and I often expect my make-up to last from 7am to 10pm (again not asking much). I'm also a girl that hates touching up make-up! So this concealer appealed to me as it is specifically long wearing.

One thing I will say I wasn't happy with was the size of the product; especially for the amount you are paying for! For 0.30 Fl OZ you will have to pay £15.50. To put the size in to real terms the product is about the size of my little finger - with the lid being just below half of that size. So in light of this I have only being using this concealer for special occasions! Whilst we're on the packaging I need to express my disdain for the lid.  It's that horrible matt type material that absorbs every make-up covered fingerprint on to the lid. I can never see the sense in that type of material being used in make-up packaging!

Anyway lets discuss the actual concealer itself. The concealer is fantastic! On the website it is described as 'medium to full coverage'. I think it is full coverage for sure - if you are after a concealer that you could double up as a foundation then this would be perfect! This product is also described as having a 'matte finish' which I also agree with. However if you team it up with a foundation that has a more dewy of satin finish it does not affect the finish of the foundation which is fantastic. If anything it gives the foundation an even base to sit on. The product has also been described as lasting '15 hours'. Astoundingly I agree with this as well! When I am taking my make-up off at the end of the day this concealer is still hanging on; covering those dark circles from my early 5am starts!

Overall despite my earlier rants about the packaging and the price I honestly love this product overall. Yes it has its downsides but I think if you just isolate your thoughts to the product alone you are definitely paying for quality. I would definitely recommend this for those special events; I have a few weddings to attend this year and I will definitely be pulling this out to use!

You can check out MAC's Pro Longwear Concealer on their website here.

Shoes Glorious Shoes! Flats and Boots.

Hello everyone! Today I am going to be talking shoes! I don't know about anyone else but I feel as if the weather is transitioning at the moment which makes it so impossible to decide what to wear each day! I myself am in work each day and for me deciding on an outfit that's appropriate to wear to walk the half an hour to and from work as well as in work itself is difficult! Since I do so much walking in the week the right shoes are crucial!

George & Asda - Flats

I picked these up the other week at George at Asda. I've been after a new pair of flats for when it hits the end of May//June however I have found myself wearing these during the weekends to run little errands! These flats are a mix of the traditional ballet pumps and loafers in my opinion. The lace detail is so pretty but its also made of thicker material so its strong and with the open weave of the material your feet are able to breathe!

Ankle Boots - New Look

If you are a very avid reader of my blog you will know I actually first received these boots as part of my Christmas Present in November which you can check out here. Well they got completely worn down and battered with the copious amount of walking I do. I liked the style and how comfortable they are to wear to work so I repurchased them! They have a chain detailing and a slight heel to them which stops me walking over in my shoes (which I tend to do a lot).

So there you have it! My little blog post on shoes! I think at this time of year when it is boiling hot at one minute and freezing cold and raining the next it is crucial to have a variety of footwear to choose from!

What shoes are you currently loving/wearing? What would you recommend for the spring transition? Let me know in the comments!
